opening up The Last Best Cure
What pages in THE LAST BEST CURE have you underlining, laughing, getting out the tissues? I'll take votes and read the most popular sections on my tour!

I know THE LAST BEST CURE has only been out for a week but some of you have (so sweetly!) already emailed to tell me you’ve read cover to cover with highlighter and sticky notes in hand, and are buying a copy for a friend or family member who you think “needs it.” You’ve told me that you’ve laughed and you’ve cried (which, of course, brings tears to my eyes).

In 3 days I begin giving readings in bookstores. And I have a favor to ask. I’d love it if you would post a quick response here on my blog or on my Facebook fan page and tell me the pages or chapters of the book that spoke to you the most (don’t give any of the storyline away though, we don’t want any spoilers!)

What pages made you underline, or laugh out loud, or get out the Kleenex?

When I see what pages get the most “votes” I’ll add those to my upcoming book readings!

Oh, and, if you have a suggestion for a bookstore that hosts author readings — for now I’m traveling close to home — inWashington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut — let me know and I’ll see about weaving them into the tour!

  1. I am especially moved by your description of how your dad *knew* you and how you got to be who you were with him. Just how I felt about my relationship with my dad – and a reminder of how blessed we were to have 40 years together. On the other hand, I think his ACE score would have been very high, and resulted in major health issues during the last ten years of his life. Very enlightening – I am highlighting all over the place!

  2. If you are in PA and especially in western PA, would love to see you come and visit our local bookstore, the Penguin Bookshop in a town called Sewickley, right outside of Pittsburgh and easily accessible to the Pittsburgh International Airport. http://www.penguinbookshop.com/

Continued success with your newest book! Thank you for all your hard work!

  3. I opened my copy last night and read at least 4 chapters. And then cried my eyes out. Looking back at my life I realize how much time I have spent in the fight or flight mode. And continue to do so to this day. In fact I am dripping tears writing this post. Today I woke up in pain – it hurts to breathe. Thanks Fibro! But through it all I feel blessed. That I am not the only one out there who suffers in silence. That I am not the only one out there that will find her voice. That I am not the only one out there who will benefit from this book to make a change leading to better health and less pain. Donna thank you for sharing your painful and frustrating journey. It takes courage to expose yourself to the world in such a way. For that I am more grateful that you will ever know. It will help me find my voice in my fight against the “silent” condition called fibromyalgia.

  4. These comments are so meaningful to me, I can’t thank you enough for sharing YOUR stories. I’ve devoted my career to helping people to heal, and, in the case of The Last Best Cure, this meant searching for my own path to healing. To know that my journey is echoing what you feel and what you long to voice is all I could ask for — and that The Last Best Cure might be some small part of your healing path — means the world. I’m grateful to you for these comments.

  5. Donna,
I am so happy and grateful to have won a copy of your book. I loved the Auto Immune Epidemic book and so look forward to reading this one.
I am astonished at how much the brain has to do with healing. In my research for my documentary on the brain, I have heard wonderful stories of what appears to be miracles.
It takes so much dedication to write a book and the process is even more intense when you aren’t always feeling well.
As I read I will post comments and questions. This book will be a huge success.

  6. Thanks Stacy, I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts as you read, especially since you know so much about the brain and healing — would love to hear how it impacts your journey! And so glad you won a copy! Thanks for sharing your comments!

  7. I have no idea how I found your Facebook page, but it was an immediate decision to buy your book! I’m not even really sure yet what it’s all about. Something led me here today and I’m happy for that!

    Regards,
    Kathy

  8. Great Kathy, Glad you found my FB page and website — hope the book makes a real difference in your life. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

  9. I saw your book randomly while in a book shop and the title drew me in as I am so desperate for that last best cure. After reading the jacket notes, I sat down and began to read. I have just been reading about neuroplasticity in the brain in trying to heal my child and then reading about ACE and how you can change your pathways to new pathways, well it was just overwhelming. And important. And profound. I had to put it down and breathe and I am working up the courage to read it all. I would love a copy of this book. And visit Eagle Harbor Books in Bainbridge Island, WA. thank you.

  10. Anna, thanks for telling me about your experience in the bookstore — I so hope the book is helpful in finding that Last Best Cure, for you and for your child. And I hope I get to visit Eagle Harbor Books in Bainbridge Island, it sounds like a special place. You mention two words: “breathe” and “courage.” Both are so important to the journey.

  11. I read your book from the library but plan to buy it as well. Wil you be coming to the Tampa Bay Area in Florida? The part I retread over and over was when you were in the car, the GPS failed, no gas, then you stepped in gas and smelled awful. How using meditation was able to help you get control again was amazing. The “forgiven” part really resonated. Thank you, thank you and thank you!

  12. Hi Karen! Thanks so much for your lovely comment. I would love to come to Tampa. Right now I have events scheduled in Maryland and Virginia. Thank you for telling me about your favorite sections in The Last Best Cure! I will bear them in mind as I choose my readings for events coming up next week. So glad the book resonates, and speaks to you so deeply! As an author, that is the greatest gift I can receive!
